First Easter

Evelyn had a lovely time hunting Easter eggs with her friends this week. Mommy had a lovely time eating all her candy. But mostly, both of us had a lovely time playing with Daddy all weekend.

(March 18 - Evelyn is looking past the weekday doldrums to a weekend full of fun!)

March 19 - her excitment wanes as she wonders, will the weekend ever come?!?

March 20 - I have now learned to take off my own hat, much to my parents' chagrin.

Because John is at a bank, he gets fewer holidays than I used to at the firm. Example: They do not get the day after Thanksgiving as a holiday. In fact, John and I laugh every year when, like clockwork, he gets an email at the beginning of that week reminding them that backup child care is half off that day. Translation: Remember that the day after Thanksgiving is NOT a holiday. It is NOT a time to spend with your children. But, since slackers the world over persist in treating it as such, and therefore you will likely be unable to find child care on this day, we will kindly allow you to leave your children for half of what you would otherwise pay. Aren't we great?

The only time John ever had a holiday when I didn't was Good Friday, since the markets are closed on Good Friday. After four weeks in a row with at least one of us being out of town at least two nights during the week (including this past week), it was so nice to have the extra time together.

March 20 - yay for the weekend! Yay for Daddy!

John had been feeling a little run down due to a cold that finally caught up with him, despite his attempts to evade it by running away to California for a few days last week, so he stayed in Friday (literally, he didn't leave the apartment all day). We all ventured out to afternoon brunch and an egg hunt on Saturday.

Sunday, after church, we celebrated by perusing our Easter baskets; reading Evelyn's new Easter books; going to dinner at Dan and Diane's (who so kindly delivered us from what would otherwise have been an Easter dinner of frozen lasagna and ice cream with the best Easter dinner anyone could hope for, complete with chocolate cake for dessert); and introducing green beans. Evelyn enjoyed 1, 2, and 3, but not 4, so I think her first Easter was a success.

She has been smiling way more than ever before. That makes being a parent way more fun.
