Santa!

We followed the lead of many of our friends and took Evelyn to see Santa at ABC Carpet and Home this year. Once we finally got there on the right day (note to self: walking three miles down without checking whether Santa is there on weekdays was a mistake), it was fantastic. Barely any line, and they have Le Pain Quotidien right there for when you're done. Or you can be crazy and go to Shake Shack in the icy snow (then buy drinks so you can sit inside at a still-freezing Subway). Either way.

I have to admit we were a bit of a spectacle. Most of the other families in line had one or two parents per child. We had SIX adults to our ONE child - John's parents and sister Sarah were in visiting (yay! we miss you already), and my dad left his business meetings to crash our Prete Santa party. I don't think Grandpa Prete was mad, though.

Since seeing Santa, Evelyn has been on her best behavior. She obviously took the song lyrics to heart. Sunday, she and her friend Curtis (one month older) were playing in the doorway outside Sunday School. It's so fun to see them interact with each other at this age. Curtis had some cars. Evelyn had a toy phone and some other things that are not *technically* toys discovered in the depths of my bag. Everyone was getting along great. Then, Curtis leaned in for a big smooch! Evelyn was having none of that. She let him know she was not ready to be "friends with benefits" in no uncertain terms by unequivocally pushing him away, neck first. Not surprisingly, this girl knows what she does (or in this case does not) want. Although, I have to say, I'm not sure she did herself any favors. They make a very attractive couple, as you can see in these pictures from three months ago.

After all her sacrifices in the name of good behavior, we decided to open our Christmas presents to each other early. (We might also have been a *little* influenced by not wanting to pay for the privilege of carting more suitcases to and from Ohio with us.) In any case, Evelyn was much more into the whole presents thing this year than last year. We decided not to wrap the presents ourselves, since all of them came already wrapped in decorative cardboard and plastic! Evelyn had a very fun time bringing gifts one by one and placing them in our hand for us to open.

The hit of the night was her new stroller.

Her favorite things to do with said stroller are (1) to run into walls or furniture, (2) to find candy to push around, or (3) to point to the stroller and say "baby" over and over again. Sadly, Evelyn is going to have to leave her stroller here for a couple of weeks, but that's okay because she filled her new purse full of hot wheels cars for the trip.

So glad to know that she has things to put into her purse. She has learned early that you need to have the necessities of life (things to entertain) close at hand.
Can't wait to play with Miss E.

Your Christmas adult to child ratio of 6:1, was approximately the reverse of our ratio which was more like one adult to six children. Luckily a bunch of those kids were happy land employees who took care of the others so the parents could just play board games and eat bon bons the entire holiday....or was it like that?

Hey, this is actually about your previous post. How old would you say Evelyn was when she actually started enjoying the zoo as opposed to not really noticed that you were in a different place from anywhere else outside? I was thinking about getting a year pass for out family to the zoo, but I want Ariana to be old enough to care.
