Valentine's Day

So, Valentine's Day was a total bust this year. I had a conference call with Tokyo that started at 8, and afterwards, the partner insisted that we draft responses to 3 emails that came in during the call before going home. We were supposed to meet at home at 9, but needless to say, it didn't happen. We totally lost out!

Our Valentine's "tradition" if you can call it that is pretty simple. We don't go anywhere. Our first Valentine's Day together was about a month before we got engaged. John planned a lovely evening, and we had a lot of fun, but at the end, we agreed that if we were still together the next year, we would do Valentine's in (I think both of us realized that if we were still together, we'd be married). That's what we've done since, and I like it. Since my birthday is just a few days later, we don't need a lot of presents and such. That's what our anniversary is for. We don't have to fight the crowds. We can just enjoy time together, and in New York, you can get pretty much anything we could afford delivered, so the food comes to you instead of the other way around.

Well, I guess the best laid plans sometimes fail. Maybe this is my subconscious's way of "getting back" at John for waiting until after my birthday and Valentine's Day to start dating me back in the day. Probably not, though. My subconscious definitely has no power over the partner, as none of my stray negative thoughts seem to have any effect on him.
